Petition to curb speeding on Old Park Ridings

As a resident of Old Park Ridings for many years Sally Mason has seen a dramatic increase in the speed and number of vehicles travelling up and down Old Park Ridings.

After several recent accidents caused by drivers driving too fast Sally decided to get a petition up in an attempt to get Enfield Council to do something that will resolve these problems. Every house in Old Park Ridings has now received two letters urging them to get involved by signing and returning the petition to her and writing about personal experiences relating to speeding issues.

Sally has now had over half of the signed petitions returned but she needs everyone to respond in order to have a chance of getting Enfield Council to act. Residents have written about having to assist injured drivers out of their wrecked cars, their own cars being written off, cars being damaged by hit and run drivers, front walls being knocked down and many wrote about their pets being run over and killed on the road. Almost all the people who have responded so far have witnessed at least one serious accident on Old Park Ridings.

In recent years there have been at least three people killed on Old Park Ridings. When residents have tried in the past to get something done about the speed on the road they were informed that there had not been enough deaths to warrant the expense of speed cameras. What a sad indictment of society today that more people need to be killed before the council will install speed cameras. What price are they putting on a life?

Vera Avenue/Park Drive junction, the site of numerous accidents

The speed activated signs installed several years ago have had little effect. From time to time the community police teams conduct speed checks and have reported that most of the drivers 'caught' live locally. It is irrelevant where the drivers live it is the fact that they are speeding that is of concern to the residents and the fact that very little is being done about it.

Should the cycle lanes be built on Green Lanes, it goes without saying that many motorists would use alternative roads. Old Park Ridings, being the main north – south alternative would almost certainly face more traffic and more frustrated drivers.

Unless action is taken by Enfield Council such as installing permanent speed cameras, there will be more serious accidents and possible fatalities.

Please scan and return your signed petition to Sally at This email address is being protected from spambots. All the evidence she can collate and submit to Enfield Council will help with this campaign.
