Enfield Green party have started a petition as follows:

"In the interests of safety, quality of life and children's independence:

We request Enfield Council establish a speed limit of 20mph along the full length of Hoppers Road and the streets between Hoppers Road and Green Lanes.
Motorists to be alerted to this speed limit by appropriate signage painted on the road surface."

You can sign this at The Larder or the Deli On The Green, or we may come and knock on your door.. There's also an online version at www.thepetitionsite.com/970/472/335/hoppers-road-speed-limit/, or you can download a PDF of the form from here (please return it to The Coach House, Arlow Rd)

We noted how many of you, at the Fancy Fair, said "No speed bumps!" and we totally agree. Ultimately it's the council that calls the shots, but we'll be making sure they know how unpopular those would be and pressing for a different way of controlling speeds.

We are still trying to get some sense out of Cllr Chris Bond about what's going to happen with this petition. There is consultation going on at the southern end of Hoppers Road around the High School where the council were already thinking of a 20mph limit themselves, as they have done round a number of other schools - but it's not yet clear whether they'll extend it to the rest of Hoppers, or to the whole area we specified, or settle for what they get round the school. It is also not clear whether this is deliberate obfuscation or just lack of communication skills.

They swung into action with a consultation after receiving another petition about extending a CPZ in Bush Hill Park - with 20 signatures on it. No I haven't left a zero off, that's twenty signatures. We got 700, so we're expecting action! We will start making waves if it doesn't start soon.

Meanwhile, a little belatedly, here's the publicity we got, In the Advertiser and in the Independent
