                                                Top Venue for Comedy

                                                Top Venue for Blues

                                                Top Venue for Tributes

Southgate Club can trace its roots back nearly two hundred years. Our club building is one of the oldest in Southgate; part of the Southgate Circus Conservation Area and recognised by English Heritage. The building was originally built for the Southgate Reading Room in 1820 and it was Sir Thomas Lipton, the founder of Liptons Teas who secured the freehold of the building for the club and for the people of Southgate in the 1850s. Two centuries on, we are still providing a friendly place for local people of all ages to meet, relax, socialise and feel part of the local community.

What does Southgate Club have to offer to members?

We have a licensed bar, where members can enjoy drinks and refreshments at favourable prices; entertain guests; watch games and matches with members and friends; join in a game of chess, cribbage darts, snooker or pool or just enjoy some quiet time on weekday afternoons, which are normally less busy.

If you are potentially interested in becoming a member of Southgate Club, a membership form can be downloaded from our website here. Your membership will need to be endorsed by two of our committee members, but don't let this formality hold you back.

Membership is only £60 a year, equivalent to £5 a month. Our membership runs from January to December;  but members can join at any time during the year, paying a pro rata rate. In addition, members receive discounts on tickets for events held at the club, as well reductions on room hire fees.

What does Southgate Club have to offer to the wider community?

Our function room, which has its own access from Crown Lane, hosts a wide range of popuar entertainment evenings, which are open to the public.

The first Friday of the month is Electric Mouse Comedy Night, hosted by Gary Coleman

On the third Monday of the month Gary hosts the Legendary Fortnight Club

The Southgate Club is where top comedians come to try out their new material.

It has been described as London's longest running comedy club

where professional comedians can try out new material.

Recognise some of these faces?

Come along, then remember where you first heard that joke!

Look out for our other regular events

On every other Friday (bar bank holidays) the Southgate Club hosts St Harmonica's Blues Club

St Harmonica's has been described as North London's premier blues organisation.

Local artists, both young and old, come together to play blues and jazz; with occasional big gigs from headline acts from time to time.

On the Sunday following the first Friday of every month is Blues Jam night.

So much going on in The Southgate Club

Our monthly tribute evenings are class acts and are often a sell out. Book early and invite your friends for a fun evening with your favourite music

Details of forthcoming events, which are open to all can be found on our website.

Sign up to our mailing list for details of events at the club.

Other weekly groups, include Slimming World and Line Dancing.

Our licensed bar and function room are available for hire at reasonable prices for birthdays, weddings and other social gatherings.

You can take responsibility for your own catering, using our small kitchen, or else we can introduce you to our caterer, who has provided catering and refreshments for many engagements at the club.

The Southgate Club is a useful space for meetings and corporate events (including conferences, exhibitions & social gatherings); used by local businesses and those from further afield; due to our close proximity to Southgate Station.

We welcome inquiries from charities looking to host events.
