Chi Chi Coffee & Waffle House

I'm Richie Hardwicke, founder of Chi Chi's Coffee & Waffle House which is opening

on the corner of Barrowell Green and Green Lanes in September 2018.

Our story goes back three years. My wife Vicky and I had been walking past this empty building,                  close to our home numerous times, wondering when someone was going to do something with it;              until one day in late 2017 it dawned on us that the somebody could be us!

Having persuaded the property owner that we were serious, we have spent the past few months                raising the cash, developing our plans for Chi Chi and with the help of our family and friends                      making our dream a reality.

Chi Chi's is named after our daughter Lucia. Our concept is simple: to create a super cool community space, serving proper, speciality coffee and exciting food to our home area.

A Great Place for Everyone to Hangout

I studied architecture so Chi Chi's reflects my love of industrial design and styling. I also                               design bespoke furniture, so Chi Chi's is furnished with unique furnishings designed and lovingly               built by me.

Chi Chi's Coffee & Waffle House will display art from local artists and artist friends alike, starting                with Nicola Gaudenzi's series of hand-drawn inks.

Chi Chi's is spacious; with room for buggys and wheelchairs. There is pleanty of toom for families              and groups of friends; as well as more intimate spaces where you can sit to read, have a quiet                    chat or work at your laptop.

We have a dedicated area for little ones, an outside space with parking for buggys and bikes.

Proper Coffee

After extensive coffee tasting we have selected the award winning Square Mile Coffee Roasters; based in Hackney. Established by James Hoffman, author of The World Atlas of Coffee and Anette Moldvaer, (Coffee World Cup Tasting Champion), Square Mile Coffee Roasters were the obvious partner, sharing our passion for the perfect cup of coffee .Loose-leaf tea specialist Rare Tea Company will also be served, alongside artisan chocolatier Mörk's hot chocolate.

We also serve a selection of delicious teas, hot chocolate, local craft beers, superb wines and soft drinks.

Great Food

Healthy, quality and local ingredients are really important to us and we will strive to use organic and local produce wherever possible.

You may never have tried waffles as we are serving them. From mouth-watering savoury creations, such as our waffle generously topped with organic, roasted vegetables and finished with goat's cheese; stacked high with slow-roasted pulled pork or served as a tasty, cheesy waffle sandwich.

Our sweet versions can be served homemade ice-cream, dipped in chocolate sauce or simply served with an array of fresh fruit and compotes.

We also serve an exciting range of fresh salads, sandwiches, cakes, pastries and other light dishes; supplied by another award-winning partner Holtwhites Bakery.

Being part of our community

Many people reading our story may be aware that we launched a Crowdfunding campaign over the summer, to help us fit out the premises. In the course of a month 138 people gave us a pledge, raising nearly £10,000!
