Sonia from Chi passes on some useful tips on looking after your skin in Winter.

Cold, wind, wintry weather and central heating can play havoc with your skin so you may need to change your skincare routine to match.

Exfoliation is important to remove build up of dead skin and also allows other products such as moisturisers to absorb more easily.

You may need to change to a richer moisturiser during the winter months to protect you more from the elements, and then to something lighter during the summer. Remember to always use moisturiser with SPF –yes even in England in the winter, UV rays can cause ageing and damage to your skin.

Body butters are great for the body, but too rich for the face. Your face moisturiser should leave your skin feeling soft and hydrated but not greasy. If it feels greasy, you may be using too much product. Professional products tend to be pricier than high street bought, but they also tend to be more concentrated, so last longer as you use less per application.

Don’t forget about your hands and feet in the winter. They can become chapped and sore with wet wintry weather. Make sure you use hand and feet creams as often as you moisturise your face as well as cuticle oil to nourish your nails. Wearing mittens/socks in bed with lashings of cream overnight is a great way to maintain winter digits.

Taking a multi-vitamin supplement will boost your immune system. Even if you have a balanced diet, supplements can boost you during cough and cold season. Remember also to hydrate from inside out with drinking lots of water. If the thought of cold water gives you the chills, drink boiled water with a squeeze of lemon or green tea which is packed full of antioxidants.

A facial is the perfect intense winter boost for your face. Stem cells are the latest innovation in skincare and have amazing regenerative and anti ageing properties.
